Animal rights activist Karen Dawn has criticised Paris Hilton and Britney Spears for their treatment of pets.
The author of Rethinking The Way We Treat Animals said that the pair were creating a bad example for youngsters with their frequent purchasing of dogs.
She told the New York Post: "We've already seen Paris go through dogs faster than mojitos (cocktails), and I bet nobody warned Britney that California might soon force drivers to keep dogs safely restrained in vehicles - like babies.
"An impulse purchase of a companion for the next 15 years?...Nobody expects them to have the dogs much longer than 15 months."
Hilton revealed last year that she employs a zoo keeper to look after her 11 dogs, three ferrets, two rabbits, two monkeys and three cats.

Benji Madden runs over photographers foot
Paris Hilton and her boyfriend Benji Madden are facing legal action from a photographer in Los Angeles, after reportedly running over his foot with their car.
Paris and Benji left the city's exclusive Foxtail nightspot with her rocker beau on Thursday night by car, with Madden at the wheel.
The vehicle was surrounded by photographers vying for pictures of the couple, one snapper is heard screaming with pain as the car passed over his foot. Madden was seen climbing out of the vehicle and walking over to the paparazzo, but subsequently got back into the car and drove off.
But now, according to the website, the snapper has reportedly filed a hit and run complaint against the couple at the L.A. Sheriff's Department.

Only 20 people out of the 85,000 will make it as finalists on the MTV show after being chosen by web surfers on the site ParisBFF.com.
The contestants will have to overcome a series of tests before Hilton decides who deserves to be the 27-year-old starlet's new BFF, or "best friend forever."
The show, which begins production in May, will be broadcast this year, People reported.

Paris Hilton Tries to fit into rockstar persona by scribbling her name on Hotel wall
Celebrity socialite and heiress Paris Hilton is reported to have been banned from a rival hotel after she scrawled her name on a suite's designer wallpaper with a black marker pen.
A spokesman for the Moscow Hyatt Hotel confirmed the star had been blacklisted and fined £4,500 for allegedly defacing their £8,000-a-night presidential suite.
She posed next to the offending graffiti - which reads "Paris Moscow 2008" - for a photoshoot in which she dressed in a skimpy dress, black boots and leopard-print knickers.
A spokesman said: "Miss Hilton ruined the wallpaper in the luxury suite. In such a case the client automatically goes on the black list."
The 27-year-old, who last year spent nearly three weeks in jail over a drink driving offence, was hosting Russia's MTV awards and had reputedly already caused as stir in the Russian capital.
According to local reports, she spent £30,000 in a wine shop and gave a photographer £150 for his jacket, emblazoned with a picture of reggae star Bob Marley.
Onlookers claimed she told him: "I want that. You can buy what you want."
She was also booked to sing at a nightclub, but eventually only picked out tunes as a DJ.

Another money Making Scheme of Paris'
Lady at large, Paris Hilton, who makes a living by conning money from businesses by just gracing their events, is now shifting into business overdrive. She is planning a double wedding along with her BFF Nicole Richie, to make millions.
Nicole and her partner Joel Madden, have a daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, born on January 11.
Paris and Good Charlotte rocker, Benji Madden, brother of Joel Madden, started dating each other in end February.
Hilton believes she will be able to make millions from the wedding by selling the pictures.

Rupert Grint not a fan of Paris Hilton
Rupert Grint has claimed it is best to avoid female stars like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.
The Harry Potter actor revealed that he met Lohan last year in America and that she bored him by talking about herself all the time.
Grint added that he didn't want to meet Hilton because she was the sort of girl you should "stay away from".
He told The Sun: "I met Lindsay last summer and she talked about herself a lot.
"She said she was going to win an Oscar before she turns 25. I just kept thinking, 'But you can’t act'.

Paris Hilton and Mischa Barton are at war over their rocker boyfriends, according to a U.K tabloid.
The former friends have been forced to cross paths on Good Charlotte's UK tour.
Paris is playing groupie to her boyfriend, Benji Madden's band, whilst Mischa is dating Taylor Rocke, guitarist with Rooney, who are supporting the headliners.

Paris wanted to buy a Cheetah while in Africa
Paris Hilton reportedly amused locals during her recent trip to South Africa because she was so focused on money.
The socialite visited the country last month during with boyfriend Benji Madden’s band, Good Charlotte and hosted a VIP club night as well as visiting local schools for promotional photo shoots.
But a source at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town, where the couple stayed a one point, has now told the New York Daily News that throughout the trip, Paris only had one thing on her mind: “Every time Paris saw something she liked, like a woman’s dress, she would ask how much it was.”
“That included a cheetah she saw at an animal park. She asked how much it was and said, ‘If I bought a cheetah, would it run away from me or could I keep it?’”
Now back in the US, the heiress launched her own range of shoes yesterday after complaining that even designer footwear looks like “clown shoes” in her shoe size, US women’s 11 (UK size 9).

Paris Hilton’s new reality show about finding a new best friend may be scrapped as casting directors are short on applicants. According to reports, less than 40 people showed up for auditions.
“There were less than 40 people there,” says an insider.
Hilton, 27, says she will “teach” the girls who make it on the MTV show how to be her best friend. A girl will be eliminated each week until only one is left.

The “in love” couple was spotted saying their farewells at London’s Heathrow International Airport earlier today. And it was clear that neither one of them wanted to part ways.
Benji clutched Paris’ hand as she check in for her transatlantic flight, keeping a poker face beneath his black sunglasses. Madden has a gig tonight in Norwich, hence he’s not going home just yet.

Barron Hilton given 3 years Probation for DUI
Paris Hilton’s younger brother Barron has been given three years' probation following his arrest for driving under the influence.
The 18-year-old pleaded no contest to charges of DUI and possessing a fake driver's licence during a hearing at a Los Angeles court.
He also had his licence suspended for a year and must pay $2,000 in fines and attend three alcohol education programmes.
Hilton was stopped by police in Malibu on February 12 and released on bail after spending a day behind bars.
Witnesses claimed he had been driving his Mercedes-Benz in an erratic manner and he was later found to have almost twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Apparently he was also ordered to visit to the LA County Morgue as part of his sentence.
Lindsay Lohan spent two days in the facility as part of her DUI sentence in January.

In a brazen PR Move, Paris checks into a 2 star hotel, makes her appearance known then leaves to stay elsewhere
Paris Hilton checked into a two-star hotel in Liverpool during a recent visit to the UK.
The heiress was forced to lower her standards when she booked into the city's Lord Nelson hotel after joining boyfriend Benji Madden's band Good Charlotte on tour.
The popular venue, which includes the Dug Out sports bar, offers rooms from £45 per night.
Hotel spokeswoman Zoe Tarrach said Hilton had proved popular with staff, telling Metro: "Paris was so nice, so down-to-earth. She was actually very complimentary about the hotel – she said it was lovely."

Paris Hilton says she is in love with B - I - Benji O
Socialite and reality television star Paris Hilton has declared that she is "so happy and in love". The 27-year-old hotel heiress made the statement in a MySpace blog posting yesterday.
Hilton, who is currently dating rocker Benji Madden, wrote: "I've never felt so happy and in love." Referring to the Good Charlotte star, she wrote: "He's such an amazing guy and life has never been better."
"It's so much fun going to their shows every night, I now know every song by heart. All the guys in the band are so cool and sweet and it's been such an amazing and memorable experience."

Alexander McQueen does not want Paris Hilton in his store
Paris Hilton has been told to keep away from the opening of a new fashion store.
British designer Alexander McQueen doesn't want 'The Simple Life' star as a customer when he opens his stylish Los Angeles boutique next month.
McQueen said: "If she comes past the shop, hopefully she will just keep walking. I don't really covet that sort of thing. I'm not too fond of these openings, I find them quite superficial.
"The people who wear McQueen wear it because they want to wear it, not because it's the new thing in town."
The designer - whose red carpet creations are favoured by Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller, Katie Holmes and Lucy Liu - also says he wanted his close friend Amy Winehouse to perform at the star-studded opening, but fears she will unable to travel to America.
McQueen is quoted by Los Angeles Times newspaper as saying: "I wanted Amy to come over and perform but she is having visa problems. I have asked another huge star to sing, but I can't say who!"
Earlier this year, Amy was unable to attend the Grammys because of visa problems. Instead the singer - who scooped five awards at the prestigious ceremony - performed in London via a live satellite link.

So how "smart" can a phone be if it is named after Paris Hilton?
If you haven't already heard, a new Paris has been hogging the tech headlines lately. While the Paris (Hilton) we know so well (and too well from her sex tape exploits) is apparently turning over a new leaf, this other Paris is a rumored upcoming smart phone from Sony Ericsson.
According to an article on USEB a.k.a. the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, the new handset codenamed Paris is said to be a slim slider with a large touchscreen display. The back of the phone is metallic, while a sliding lens cover protects a 5-megapixel camera sensor. It will sport multifunctional QWERTY keys much like Sony Ericsson's P1i touchscreen smart phone, and features standard Bluetooth and 3G as well as onboard Wi-Fi and GPS. Paris will run on the Symbian UIQ 3.3 platform, with Mobile Opera 9.5 Web browser and Google Maps also preinstalled.
From the blurry image (supposedly captured from a video) posted, this Paris reminds us of the LG Chocolate with its touch-sensitive directional keypad, though it does seem slightly wider and features a round navigation control instead of a square one.
As expected, our Sony Ericsson contact in Asia gave us a "no comments on future products" response when contacted about the Paris. That said, with the source coming from USEB which has proven to be fairly accurate with upcoming Sony Ericsson product releases, we have a feeling we'll be hearing more of Paris sooner than you can say Hilton.

Paris Hilton, is refusing to meet the candidates who are competing to become her BFF (best friend forever).
Instead the candidates will first have to pass an interview with two of the casting directors of MTV reality show ‘Paris Hilton’s My New BFF’.
According to the Metro, the premise of the show is this: ‘hot bitches’ and ‘fabulously fierce guys’ – or ‘girls’ and ‘gay fellas’ as they were once known – battle it out to become Paris Hilton’s new best friend forever.
Forever!
What level of mind would consider that a worthy cause to fight for? And worse - what level of mind would watch such a show?
Oh! Of course - it would be a mind akin to that which is interested in the home-life of a flimsy-yellow-t-shirt-tearing-OAP, we suppose, and there seems to be a truly depressing amount of them. Does anyone remember when MTV had shows like Beavis and Butthead? What the fuck happened?
Perhaps Paris herself has had similar doubts about the contestant's mental states, which is why she is point-blank refusing to meet the maniacs. It all depends on whether you consider her capable of such foresight.
It’s also further proof behind her theory that her independence is growing as each day passes. Not so long ago, if she’d have wanted a new BFF, she’d have just asked daddy for one. But now, because of the frenzied attention we’ve all been giving her and the money and fame she’s managed to extract from it, she is able to get a television company to bend over backwards and find her a friend instead! Oh, what a life she has!
The other route for Paris to take on her quest to find a BFF would be the path us normal folk are most used to, that of ‘trying, over a number of years - perhaps a lifetime - to be a good, nice, friendly person to someone else’. But we don’t understand what it’s like to have such power and, until we do, our suggestions are without experience or worth.
Remember to get your minge out, contestants - she loves all that - and don't forget to leave any respect you had for your daddy at home - cos' it be time to impress Paris Hilton!

Paris Hilton the Shoe whore comes to Canada
Paris Hilton swept into Montreal on Saturday to meet her fans and sell some shoes.
Hundreds of people lined up on a Ste-Catherine Street sidewalk for as long as seven hours to check out Hilton's new footwear line.
"I'm so excited to be in Montreal again, I love Canada," Hilton told the horde of photographers and fans crammed into the back of the downtown Browns Shoes store.
"It's an honour to have my shoe line here. I'm very excited and I'm excited to see all my fans - I saw there's so many people outside."
Flashbulbs lit up the room as Hilton blew kisses, struck poses and showed off a pair of grey high heels from her collection.
Fans shouted "I love you Paris" to the socialite as she strutted around a small stage.
"I love you all, thank you so much for coming, this is so exciting, and go buy my shoes," she said.

Paris in My Name is Earl
Earl Hickey (Jason Lee) found out that Paris Hilton is the girl of his dreams. "My Name is Earl" brought aboard the celebrity socialite for a dream sequence in the show's return Thursday night.
In the episode -- the first for "Earl" since the end of the Hollywood writers strike in February -- Earl finds himself flat in the middle of a road with Alyssa Milano's character, Billie. After the two are knocked out cold by a car, Earl's imagination runs wild -- and Hilton is in it.
While the appearance was heavily promoted, Hilton appeared on screen for less than a minute, with her only lines being her trademark "That's hot," delivered three times in a row while posing for the camera toward the middle of the show and again near the end."My Name is Earl" is Hilton's first acting gig since the ill-fated feature film "The Hottie and the Nottie" debuted and quickly exited theaters in February.
Hilton's also had roles in the 2005 horror thriller "House of Wax" and 2004 comedy drama "Raising Helen," and has guest-starred on such television shows as "Veronica Mars," "The O.C.," "George Lopez" and "Las Vegas."

Paris Hilton's body guard roughs up Finnish photographer
A bodyguard working for Paris Hilton, a US hotel heiress and socialite, threw a Finnish Lehtikuva photographer against a car at Helsinki-Vantaa airport on Thursday, tabloid Ilta-Sanomat reported on its website.
Ms Hilton flew into Finland from Estonia with her boyfriend Benji Madden, the guitarist of US pop rock band Good Charlotte, and was met by a number of fans at the airport.
According to Ilta-Sanomat, one of Ms Hilton's bodyguards used force against the photographer as the couple stepped into a vehicle.
The photographer in question told the Finnish News Agency (STT) that such incidents were not uncommon when celebrities were accompanied by bodyguards.

Paris Beats out Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears in popularity
Paris Hilton has topped a new list of the ‘Most Overexposed Celebrity in America.’
According to a survey by Los Angeles-based E-Poll Market Research, the hotel heiress has beaten Britney Spears and party girl Lindsay Lohan to the top of the list.
The survey, reported by Forbes magazine, noticed that the media exposure keeps such stars among the ranks of top celebrities even when their movie, TV, or recording work is unnoticeable.
Forbes has given the example of Pamela Anderson, who has landed the fourth spot in the list.
"Without the acting career she hoped would take off. It`s her tabloid presence care of multiple marriages (and divorces) and provocative ways that continues to open doors for her celebrity," Contactmusic quoted Forbes, as stating.

Harvard Lampoon takes another shot at Paris
PARIS HILTON has been on virtually every other magazine cover, so why not National Geographic?
After all, as we mentioned last week, she did discover the nation of West Africa.

It's the Harvard Lampoon's April Fool's spoof of the venerable nature mag, which hit stands yesterday.
The folks at the Lampoon even persuaded NG employees to help with the parody, which includes a satire on Mongolia's wildest waterparks and "Native Girls Gone Wild."
"My guess was they were just extremely bored and they were tired of working with animals and scientists and wanted to hang out with college students," said Hayes Davenport (now there's a Harvard name), who edited the magazine with fellow senior Ross Arbes.
Davenport said that other publications have helped with their parodies in the past, such as when USA Today printed the Lampoon's version on its press in 1989. National Geographic not only helped print the parody and distribute it, Arbes said, but also a designer helped lay out the mag to make it look as much like the original as possible.
"They provided things that were really valuable to us," Arbes said.
In one jab at National Geographic's staid image, the Lampoon created three new editions to help keep the magazine relevant for younger generations, and features Hilton in a "Your Wildest Animal Fantasies" story.
Of course, the Lampoon's version offers a send-up to anthropological nudity. A photo of a lion is actually made up of dozens of images of women's bare chests.
